Zhonghui Insulation Solutions for Extreme Cold Climates

2026-01-07

In cold and extreme cold regions, Container Houses must maintain stable thermal performance despite low temperatures, strong winds, and large day–night temperature differences. Without proper insulation treatment, steel structures can lead to rapid heat loss, condensation, and reduced service life.

Drawing on practical engineering experience, Zhonghui provides reliable insulation solutions for container houses used in demanding cold-climate environments.

1. Sandwich Wall Panels – Primary Insulation Layer

Sandwich wall panels form the main thermal envelope of a container house. For cold climate applications, Zhonghui commonly applies the following panel options:

  • PU (Polyurethane) Sandwich Panels
PU panels offer low thermal conductivity and high insulation efficiency. They are well suited for projects with higher requirements for energy performance and indoor temperature stability.
PU sandwich panels can be manufactured with thicknesses up to 100 mm, providing effective insulation while keeping the wall structure compact.

  • Water-resistant Rock Wool Sandwich Panels
Rock wool panels are non-combustible and provide excellent fire resistance, making them suitable for buildings with higher fire-safety requirements.
For cold and extreme cold regions, rock wool sandwich panels can be produced with thicknesses up to 150 mm, improving thermal performance through increased insulation thickness.

2. Joint and Connection Treatment – Polyurethane Foam

In practical applications, heat loss is often concentrated at panel joints, structural connections, and areas around doors and windows rather than through the wall panels themselves.

To reduce thermal bridging, Zhonghui applies polyurethane foam to seal gaps during manufacturing and installation. The foam bonds directly to steel structures and panel edges, helping to limit air leakage and reduce cold-bridge effects. In addition to the commonly used PU foam, Zhonghui can apply special sealant  or rubber strip to fill gaps, preventing wind and water infiltration while accommodating slight structural movements. For column or other structural voids, glass wool or rock wool can be added to further enhance insulation. Typically, we combine PU foam with special sealant or glass/rock wool, effectively reducing thermal bridging and air leakage, while ensuring durability and ease of installation, keeping the container house warm and comfortable even in cold environments.

3. Roof Insulation – Spray Polyurethane Foam

In cold climate projects, the roof is a critical area for both heat loss and condensation risk. Depending on project requirements, the steel roof structure can be treated with spray-applied polyurethane foam before ceiling installation.

The foam is sprayed directly onto the inner surface of the steel roof and structural members. This allows it to follow irregular geometries and form a continuous insulation layer, reducing heat transfer through the steel structure and limiting air and moisture penetration. After foaming, ceiling or interior finishes can be installed according to the project design.

4. Vapor Control and Moisture Protection

In environments with large indoor–outdoor temperature differences, uncontrolled moisture migration into insulation layers can lead to condensation and reduced thermal performance.

For relevant applications, Zhonghui uses PE vapor barriers or other membrane materials within the assembly to help limit moisture transfer and support long-term stability of the insulation system and steel structure.

5. Experience in Cold Climate Applications

Through appropriate wall panel selection, joint sealing with polyurethane foam, roof insulation treatment, and vapor control measures, Zhonghui supports container house applications in challenging cold-climate environments. These solutions are commonly used in:

  • Construction and engineering camps

  • Mining and remote-area accommodation

  • Temporary and long-term buildings in cold and extreme cold regions

All insulation solutions are based on factory-prefabricated components combined with efficient on-site installation, balancing construction speed with reliable thermal performance.
